Yung Kao
For over three decades, Yung Kao has been building a legacy of excellence in architecture and public service. As the former Chief Building Official for the City of Monterey Park, he not only enforced building codes but helped improve them by authoring amendments adopted into the national model codes. As an architect, he offers a rare blend of design creativity and technical mastery to navigate through project complexity with flair, from steep hillside conditions to layers of overlapping regulations such as general plan, specific plan, zoning, and special design conditions.

An NCARB-licensed architect and California Certified Access Specialist (CASp), Yung holds a Master of Architecture and a Master of City Planning from UC Berkeley. He is an adjunct professor at East LA College Department of Architecture.
Yung's deep commitment to professional excellence and the community is reflected in his long history of community engagement and volunteer services, having served on the Design Review Board and the Planning Commission for the City of Alhambra, on the boards of the California Certified Access Specialists Institute (CASI), Rebuilding Together- San Gabriel Valley Chapter, and four terms as president of the Chinese-American Construction Professionals. He was on ICBO’s national committee for Special Inspectors’ certification exams, and chaired several committees for a consortium of 89 building departments in the greater Los Angeles region. He is a frequent speaker on ADA issues for various professional and community organizations.
